Last year, Google introduced the concept of Predictive apps, wherein the operating system predicts the apps you need and places them on the path you normally follow to launch that app.The prediction rates were as high as nearly 60%
With App Action feature coming in Android P announced at Google I/O 2018, the next actions are being predicted based on the usage pattern.
For example, if headphones are connected to your smartphone, Android will surface an action to resume the album you were listening to.
Actions are just like shortcuts that help in accessing the functions on the app with voice command or touch of a button.
For example, if you google search the new release, Infinity war, in addition to regular suggestions, you will get actions like buying Infinity war's movie tickets.
The developers just need to add the Actions.xml file to their app and then actions surface not only in the launcher but also in Smart Text Selection, Google Play Store, Google Search and the Google Assistant.
With this latest feature, your smartphone is not only predicting your next action but also adapting to your usage habits and helping to quickly reach out to your next action.
