How to download your personal user data collected by Whatsapp

In compliance with new EU data privacy rules coming into force next month, WhatsApp will now allow its users to download and view the data it collects from them.
This privacy feature came amid criticism over data abuse by Facebook. WhatsApp assured its users that their data is end-to-end encrypted and not even WhatsApp can access that information.

"In the coming weeks, you will be able to download and see the limited data that we collect. This feature will be rolling out to all users around the world on the newest version of the app," WhatsApp said in its blog post.

WhatsApp stores following data and now this data will be shared with the users in the form of reports.

• Username



• Time the report was pulled



• Whether user was online or offline at that point



• IP address last connected from (saved for diagnostic purposes)



• Phone type



• Profile photo



• Phone numbers you upload without names



• List of groups you are in



• Terms of service accepted



• Blocked users

These reports will not contain any of your WhatsApp messages.

In order to generate the report, open WhatsApp and go to three-dotted menu and under that go to Settings. Under Settings, go to Account and click on Request account info. Tap on Request report and your report will be ready in about one day.

Your request will be cancelled if you make changes to your account like changing your number or deleting your account. Once requested, you can't undo or cancel your pending report request. Users will also have the option to permanently delete the downloaded copy of the report.

To view and download your WhatsApp info report, you need to have the updated app installed on your smartphone.
