Safe Web Browsing via Webview to become a Default feature for all Android Users

As we all know, web browsing is also one of the areas where Malware and Phishing attacks are very common wherein the attackers steal your confidential login and passwords details as well as take over your computer or PC through malicious software to spread bugs or get access to your personal data without your consent.

Since the release of Google's Safe Browsing in 2007, Google has been protecting its worldwide users from Malware and Phishing attacks. Google Safe Browsing is protecting over three billion devices every day by showing warnings to users when they attempt to navigate to malicious sites or download dangerous files. In 2017, Google introduced Google Play Protect, which scans the apps and protects Android users from installing malicious apps. This service is deployed through Google Play services to all Android devices.

Now with the release of WebView version 66, Google Play Protect is enabling Safe Browsing in Webview by default from April 2018. Android developers will no longer have to make any changes since it will be implemented by default.

Just like Chrome for Android, Safe Browsing uses the same technology and is available on 8.0 Oreo Devices and can be customized with new APIs in Android 8.1. As soon as the Safe Browsing is invoked, a warning and network error will appear in a red color warning page with a back to safety option.

With this feature, Google is providing its users a safe internet usage environment where they can freely browse the web pages and protect their devices and personal data from online dangers and third-party unauthorized access.
